Elegant, sophisticated, extremely versatile and easy to wear, classic blue, a deep and saturated true blue, like a sapphire gemstone, with a similar level of elegance, is officially the colour of the year 2020 according to Pantone Color Institute.
A timeless and enduring blue hue, Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity and brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Classic blue triumphs in high fashion
Blues were some of the most ubiquitous spring 2020 runway colors: proposed in different tones and undertones, in intense and refined combinations.
However, there is no lack of creations with different shades of blue, at Emporio Armani we saw blue trousers paired with a turquoise jacket, and glamorous combinations with black, at Alberta Ferretti blue and black combined in extremely sophisticated fluid and light dresses.
There were many examples of Classic Blue on the runways, including a monochrome jumpsuit with a leaf shaped 3D trimming effect on the edges at Stella McCartney, a Classic Blue suit worn with a matching hat and black blouse at Prada and sheer dresses at Richard Malone.
